The #1 Step You Must Take For Social Media Success

Social Media HelpI'm going to share something with you that most online professionals won't say. This may even surprise you, but in order to experience success online, you need to hear it…

You DON'T have to be on social media to build a successful business!

In fact for thousands of years business owners have been doing just that–building businesses that thrive without ever using Facebook or Google+.

Yes I know that I coach and train business owners to use social media effectively, but this is one of the first things I tell them. Why? Because adding online marketing to your tool box is not something to take lightly. You can't just put your big toe in and expect results.

What this means for most of us is that we need to make a committed decision to online marketing. This decision can not be a SHOULD. You know what I mean, right? Those should's that keep telling us that we should do this or we should do that. If you are approaching online marketing as a should, I hate to tell you this, but you will fail miserably.

I've seen it time and time again–business owners who aren't really sure if they want to use social media, but feel like it is something they should do…well guess what happens–it doesn't work. It is almost like they feel they need to make a Facebook page because everyone tells them to, but they aren't convinced it is the right tool for them or that it even works. Then when they don't see results, they have the belief that social media marketing doesn't work and they throw in the towel. This is a complete waste of time, energy and money.

Why am I telling you this? First and foremost because I want to free you from the 'should'. I want you to completely take that off the table.

Now, just breathe for a minute and let this set in–You don't have to be on social media!

Okay, now what did that do for you? Do you feel a sense of relief?

Take some time to determine whether or not you want to commit to online marketing. Oh and using things like you are afraid or you don't know what to do are not allowed to be factored into this decision.

Instead focus on your business goals and how marketing through social media might help you achieve those goals.

What is your intention for starting a Facebook page or Twitter account? Is it to generate traffic to your website? Is it to grow your list? Is it to create buzz about your business? Or is it something even bigger–like lead a movement?

You get to decide what inspires you about using social media for your business. When you take away the should and you open up to the possibilities that are available, it changes your commitment and your motivation.

So before you go out there and join all of those platforms, be sure that you are committed.
