Trying to determine the pros and cons of social media for your business development?

Overwhelmed yet? Building an online presence for your business can feel completely overwhelming. The platforms are abundant and trying to be successful on each one can be a big time waster. Some days you may even try to determine if social media is right for your business. Don't worry–you are not alone! At one time or another we've all been there. On days when you are feeling completely overwhelmed or frustrated, sometimes its best to get away from it all and take a breath. On the other days, it is best to come up with some sort of plan of attack rather than juggling each and every recommended site.

How to Stop the Insanity of Social Media Marketing and Increase Results

 1. Know your clients inside and out. For many business owners it is easy to describe their ideal clients, but for others it is a challenge. Regardless of whether you are currently marketing to your ideal clients or not, one of the best ways to help you dig through the social media mountain is to: Just Do It! Even if you don't want to name those ideal clients on your website (we'll save that for another post), knowing in your mind who they are makes your efforts much simpler.

2. Understand where your ideal clients hangout. After you know who you'd love to work with, you need to discover where they hang out on social media. Are they sharing pictures on Pinterest? Are they networking on LinkedIn? Are they seeking information on YouTube? In order to understand where you need to spend your time, you first need to know what your potential customers are seeking on social media.

3. Delegate your energy, attention, and time. When you narrow the platforms where you ideal clients are spending time, you can make a plan for your time. If you learn that your customers are hanging out on LinkedIn and making connections there, then that is where you need to focus your time and attention. Sure the other sites may have some potential, but why not spend time where you are certain to find the right connections?

4. Become exceptional on this platform. To help you stay focused on your social media plan, make a promise to yourself to become an expert on the platform your ideal customers are using. Learn how you can use it to connect with them and what they are seeking on the site. Become what they seek on their favorite social media platform.

With new social media platforms popping up each and everyday, it is easy to become overwhelmed and distracted. With the experts telling you to try this and do that, it's no wonder the ability to stay focused seems non existent. However, if you take the pressure off of yourself by focusing on your clients and what they want, you will know where you need to focus your energy.
