1. Don't forget about your own business. It is so easy to get caught up into your money producing activities, that you completely forget about your own online image. Whether you are writing content or managing social media sites for other businesses, be sure you treat your own business as well, if not better than, the businesses you service.
2. Don't make false claims. If you haven't done it yet for your own business, don't make promises you can't keep. It is easy to get caught up in the marketing hype and follow what others are doing. However, this may lead to disappointment with your clients. Unless you have 10,000 followers on Twitter, don't offer that result for others.
3. Don't stop learning. Internet marketing is ever changing, and quickly. What you may be doing today, may be outdated tomorrow. Be sure to always be learning, reading, and expanding your abilities to keep up. Also, be sure that those you follow are also practicing what they preach!
If you are looking to stand out in a crowd, make sure you are walking your talk. Sure you can find clients without it, but to make them long term clients, you don't want to make empty promises or lead them in the wrong direction.
